Students filled out a form (credible, biased, useful) about an article as we began research. As students were working, I used Grammarly to see if it could answer the questions of the evaluation. I used the article everyone was using for practice (formative).
At first, I was dismayed that the students didn't need to search the website or Google to get the information. After talking to a peer coach, I realized using Grammarly was actually a more viable option. Afterall, they could find the same information with less work and Google doesn't always give factual information. I checked Grammarly's answers with the answers I had found using the article website and Google. The students took the summative without me showing them the ease of Grammarly. On Monday, after I have graded the summative web evaluation. I will let students use Gramarly to redo their assignment. They still will need to add their opinions and details, but it will be a learning activity showing the usability of the article which is the intent.
