Epic Fail

More pages from the notebook...

Although my reasoning and research was solid, I failed epically when I chose to use ChatGPT to brainstorm ideas for fables.  My plan was to have students use ChatGPT to make a list of animals and morals for their fable.  Next, they would use ChatGPT to find the interactions of two animals.  When I did this at home, it went well.  It was a solid base for writing a fable.  I also gave it a test run at school using a student computer.  All was well.

How was this a fail?  The next week, when I went to introduce fables, ChatGPT had been blocked at the middle schools.  It was my fault because I questioned someone in the tech department about guidelines using ChatGPT in the classroom.  I was told since I teach at the middle school, it's not an issue since students weren't old enough to use it.  I explained they could use it without downloading the extension and/or putting in an age, so I wanted to know if their were guidelines about how student could and could not use it in the classroom.  This resulted in ChatGPT being blocked in the middle school classroom.

It wasn't a complete loss; we were able to do similar activities with Google.
