Reflection Time

BTW- I used Canva for the image on this page and the title page of this blog.  I'll probably frequently use it for images!

As I return to the classroom after winter break and enter the last half of the second quarter, I reflect on how AI has changed my teaching in the classroom.  As I enter each unit, I now focus on how I can show students the importance of being authentic while using AI.

I also watch students writing (actually looking at their computers) to see how they're using AI (especially Grammarly) and having honest discussions about its use.  One student asked me if he could use AI for a certain question.  I said, "Let's try it."  It turns out that it didn't work.  We rephrased his question/search, and it still didn't work.  It was a good conversation about how to use the tool productively.

I've learned that students are using AI platforms such as Grammarly, so it's better to give them guidance with the platforms. It's important to model the uses of AI even if it's showing students how I am using AI to look at their writing.

I look for creative and useful ways to enhance my teaching and student learning using AI.

I've looked at different platforms.

Semanaticscholar.org was too intense for 7th graders.

Scite.ai looked interesting yet was $20 a month.

Quillbot had me thinking about the difference between paraphrasing and summarizing and when each is effective.
